BMX rider Brooke McFarlane took out top honours at the 2012 Rising Sports Star award presentation last Friday.

The teenager was given $2000 to pursue her chosen sport, courtesy of the award’s sponsor Busselton Freight Services.

Brooke is ranked eighth in the world for her age category after competing in the under-13s age group at the World BMX Championships in England in May.

The runner-up award was presented to female footballer Tayla Bresland, who was at The Goose to receive her $1000 prize.

Soccer player Sam Guthridge will use his $400 encouragement prize to support his passion.

Twelve monthly winners were in the running for the prizes after being selected throughout the past year by the Rising Sports Star committee.

The youngsters, aged between 13 and 18, attended with family or were represented to collect medals from BFS general manager Allan Price.

Professional golfer Brody Ninyette, from Busselton, spoke to the group and encouraged the monthly winners to keep working hard to achieve their dreams in their chosen sport.

Local sports personalities were also attended, including former Olympian Jenny Couch and triathlete Katie Greenfield.

The Rising Sports Star award is proudly supported by the Busselton Dunsborough Times.
