Australian film legend Richard Roxburgh to join CinefestOZ 2022 as chair of the jury
An award-winning Australian actor, writer, producer and director has been selected as Chair of the Jury for this year’s CinefestOZ.
Renowned film star Richard Roxburgh will join the festival line-up in Busselton and handed out the festival’s most anticipated $100,000 film prize.
The Elvis star said he is looking forward to taking part in the “unique experience” offered by CinefestOZ, having previously been apart of the 2019 major film prize winning movie, H is for Happiness.
“There’s something special about CinefestOZ and this corner of the world - the relaxed coastal environment, mixed with a vibrant arts community and of course its famous food and wine - makes it a truly unique experience,” he said.
“I am excited and honoured to attend the Festival as Jury Chair and return to WA’s South West where I’ve previously filmed several movies including Breath, GO and H is for Happiness.”
Now in it’s 15th year, the six day festival will feature 270 screenings and events across 35 locations in the South West region, providing festival-goers with the opportunity to see some of Australia’s best new films.
CinefestOZ chair Margaret Buswell said the festival a great opportunity for creatives to come together and is “delighted” to have Roxburgh on board.
“The CinefestOZ team has created an extraordinary program that talks to a diverse audience - from laugh-out-loud comedies and compelling dramas, to thought-provoking documentaries about current social and environmental issues, stories that showcase our First Nations people and films that tap into popular culture and music,” she said
“Richard’s experience in film, television and theatre in Australia and internationally, as well as his knowledge of CinefestOz and the South West region, is a wonderful coup for the Festival and Western Australia.”
