Audience helps with Big Hoo-Haa
Perth comedy act The Big Hoo-Haa will bring their interactive brand of humorous performance to Yallingup tonight.
Creator Sam Longley said the group pitted two teams of comedians against one another onstage for a competition of wit in the style of US improvisational comedy TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway?
“It’s all about the audience, ” he said.
The interactive show uses audience suggestions to create improvised comedy sketches, mimes and skits.
“Stand-up comedy tends to be about the comedian, but we take suggestions and ideas and cues from the audience so no two shows are the same, ” he said.
“It’s always about the audience and what the audience gives us is what we give back.”
Longley said the group travelling to the South West for a one-off performance tonight comprised five comedians and a musician.
Longley and comedians Libby Klysz, Sean Walsh, Tegan Mulvany and Damon Lockwood will make up two “hearts” and “bones” teams of two and an MC.
The The Big Hoo-Haa has been in operation for about 12 years and performs to a sell- out crowd at the Brisbane Hotel’s Lazy Susan’s Comedy Den every Saturday night.
Four years ago, the group franchised to Melbourne.
Longley, who is both an actor and director in the group, said his improvisational form of comedy allowed comedians the flexibility to adapt their comic style to different circumstances.
The Big Hoo-Haa will perform at Caves House Hotel in Yallingup tonight from 8pm.
Tickets are available from OZtixs or at the door for $25.
An a la carte menu with a choice of six curries, with vegetarian options, will also be available for Caves House Hotel’s weekly Indian curry night.
It’s always about the audience and what the audience gives us is what we give back. Sam Longley
