Annual art showcase begins
Dunsborough Art Society holds its annual summer exhibition from today.
Entitled Art from the Bay, the artists’ work will be on display at Yallingup Hall from 6pm tonight.
Society vice-president Florence Clements said the exhibition would feature 136 pieces produced by 26 artists.
“It’s quite an anticipated event in our region, ” she said.
“This is our main exhibition. It represents the year’s work from our artists.”
Ms Clements said the works encompassed all media and would be displayed according to genre.
While not a competition, prizes would be awarded for the best pieces determined by a panel of judges, she said.
“It seems to be a very popular exhibition and it sells very well too, ” Ms Clements said.
“There are quite a few terrific and talented artists in the group at the moment.”
Ms Clements said the exhibition attracted many visitors to the area, as well as having a good attendance by local residents in the South West.
“The exhibition has earned an excellent reputation for high-quality art work, ” she said.
“For example, we attract a dedicated following of art collectors from Perth who drive down to Yallingup especially for the opening night in order to purchase prize-winning artists’ work.”
Following tonight’s official opening by Barry House MLC, the exhibition will be open daily from 10am to 5pm until January 11.
