Admirable play has a dark side
Dunsborough’s Wild Capers Theatre Group is performing the comedy The Admirable Crichton at the Old Dunsborough Hall this month.
Written by J.M. Barrie — who wrote Peter Pan — the play has been described as featuring characters from Downton Abbey cast adrift on a tropical island.
Director Liza Black said the production would be funny, moving and thought-provoking.
“It’s a fabulous show. You will laugh and cry and come away in a questioning mood, ” she said.
“On the surface it’s a light romantic comedy, but if you consider it more deeply it has a darker side.”
The show is being performed by a group of talented actors from Dunsborough, Vasse and Busselton.
Jonathan Tomlinson leads the cast as the intense Crichton, joined by Munro Hall as Ernest and Tom Black as the pompous Lord Loam.
The ladies are led by Rebecca Hunt as Lady Mary, with Courtney Trantham as her love rival Tweeny, and Rebecca Alosi and Helena Nicholson as sisters Catherine and Agatha.
Liam Gamble plays the likable Reverend Treherne, Patricia Mothersole is the formidable Lady Brocklehurst, and Joe Jordanoff plays her son Lord Brocklehurst.
“It’s a great cast, completed by a group of eight actors aged from 10 to 80 as the servants of the Earl of Loam, ” Mrs Black said.
“A lot of money has been spent on upgrading the stage at the hall, so watch out for the special effects which are now possible.”
Performances are at 7.30pm on October 17, 18, 19, 24 and 25, with a matinee on October 19.
Tickets cost $20 and are available from Sea Change News, Dunsborough.
