154th Busselton Show as big as ever

RACHEL CURRYBusselton Dunsborough Times

The Busselton Show is back this year and it is as big as ever.

The Southern Districts Agricultural Society is putting on the event for the 154th time and all the favourites are returning to Churchill Park.

Ring events start the show at 8.30am on Friday, October 31, with the main exhibitors’ sections open from 3pm and sideshow alley ready to tempt thrillseekers from 4pm.

As always, there is a fireworks display scheduled for 8.30pm.

The show is an all-day event on Saturday, November 1, with plenty of entertainment at the centre oval, including Tiny Tots, Incredible Creatures, SNAG Golf, Sci-tech and face-painting for the younger ones.

The State Government has once again supported free entry for children.

Southern Districts Agricultural Society president Wally Lord said the show would be a fun occasion for people of all ages.

“The Busselton Show is a window into what happens in Busselton,” he said.

“It’s got a lot to see and a lot to do — heaps of sideshows, lots of trade space, cars and tractors.

“There’ll be fantastic school displays this year like there is every year. The schools serve us really well with their displays.”

Year of the Family Farm is the feature for this year’s show, which will prevail through the art and children’s sections.

The event will also celebrate 100 years of the Holstein-Friesian Association of Australia.

The Holstein breed of dairy cattle originated in the Netherlands and was brought to Australia in 1866 with one bull and six females.

They now number about 1.7 million, which equates to more than 80 per cent of all Australian dairy cattle.

The dairy promotion tent will show cows being milked and calves being fed at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm on Saturday.
