While Perth is set for its hottest day in six months, other parts of the State are in for more rain and thunderstorms.

Perth is forecast to reach a maximum of 31C on Friday which would make it the hottest day since April.

Further inland, showers and storms are expected across the northern and central parts of WA, with meteorologist Miriam Bradbury saying the rain will push into south-eastern areas too.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning on Thursday just before 1.30pm for people in parts of the Pilbara.

“High-based thunderstorms developing along a trough through the North Interior and Pilbara will result in isolated damaging wind gusts,” the warning stated.

Locations that may be affected include Telfer where wind gusts of 117km/h were recorded at 12.55pm.

Emergency WA has urged residents in the storm warning area to act now and stay safe.

Locals are told to follow the below instructions:

  • Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, trampolines and other loose items around your home that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds.
  • Prepare an emergency kit with a radio that runs off batteries, a torch, spare batteries and a first aid kit. For more information visit emergency.wa.gov.au/prepare.
