Police in negotiations with man as residents ordered to stay indoors at Urangan
An emergency situation has been declared as hundreds of Wide Bay residents are waking to messages from police to stay indoors.
The situation began following a welfare check made just after 3am on Friday, with police travelling to a home on Hood St in Urangan.
“Upon arrival, police began negotiations with a male resident at the address,” they said.
“An emergency situation was declared around 4.30am.”
Police declared an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) with boundaries encompassing Hood Street, Esplanade, Marine Court and Pulgul Street.
“Members of the public are advised to avoid the area, and those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors until further notice.”
The exact reason for the emergency is unknown at this stage.
