An urgent search is underway for a diver missing off the Gascoyne coast.

Police have deployed specialist divers to Red Bluff at Quobba Station following reports the man, aged in his 30s, failed to resurface on Tuesday afternoon while fishing and diving 800m off the coast with two friends.

“The men had been diving together and when one did not resurface, his friends contact emergency services,” a police spokesman said.

“Currently WA Water Police are co-ordinating a search to locate the man.”

Marine rescue volunteers from Carnarvon are reported to have ventured to the beach on Wednesday to assist with search efforts.

Police have also deployed a drone at the scene.

Red Bluff is in the southern part of the Ningaloo Marine Park, around 970 km north of Perth.

It is popular for fishing, surfing and camping.
