Jayquarne Simpson: Mullewa man charged over alleged hit-and-run in Geraldton

Geraldton police have charged a Mullewa man over a hit-and-run in the early hours of Sunday, alleging he struck two people known to him with a vehicle. Police allege Jayquarne Godfrey Neil Simpson, 19, was part of a physical altercation about 2.30am on Sunday in Wonthella between a group of people known to each other. According to police, two people were struck by a vehicle during the confrontation. A 36-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were both injured as a result, with the latter flown to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment. The man was also set to be flown to Royal Perth Hospital to receive further treatment, after spending Sunday at Geraldton Hospital. Mr Simpson was charged with two counts of intent to do grievous bodily harm to another, as well as one count of failing to stop to ensure assistance was received after an incident occasioning grievous bodily harm. The 19-year-old faced Geraldton Magistrates Court on Monday, where his defence counsel requested a home detention report to apply for bail. Magistrate Matthew Walton allowed the report to be made, but warned Mr Simpson not to expect bail given the serious nature of the alleged offences. Mr Simpson was due back in court on Monday December 9 and was remanded in custody.
