Geraldton softball round six wrap: Rams impress across men’s and women’s divisions
Rams’ men’s and women’s top-division teams made a strong return to form in round six of the Geraldton softball season at the weekend.
In women’s division one, Rams delivered a commanding 10-0 win over Marlins, marking a significant bounce-back in performance.
Stacey Derschow was dominant on the mound, striking out six and allowing just one hit over four innings.
Marlins’ Taryn Purcell fought hard at the plate, going one for one, but struggled to contain the Rams’ offensive power.
Meanwhile, Pi’s Panthers also made a statement with a 17-2 victory over Suiside — their most impressive performance of the season.
The Panthers’ balanced offence and solid defence left little room for their opponents to mount a challenge.
Round seven will see the Martians take on Suiside, while Pi’s take on a Marlins side hopeful of putting a win on the board.
In division-one men’s action, Rams showed they were back to their best with a solid 9-2 victory over Blaze, highlighting their resurgence as they overcame tough conditions to dominate the game with strong batting and fielding.
Suiside continued their perfect start to the season with a 9-5 win over Martians, extending their undefeated streak to five games.
Joseph Mazza’s spectacular three-run homer helped Suiside find their rhythm, with Liam Meharry’s steady pitching and key defensive plays from Jack and Murray Connell sealing the victory.
Next round will see bottom play top as Blaze hope for a change in fortunes when they face in-form Suiside. Rams will hope to start a streak against the Martians.
In the men’s division-two competition, round six produced plenty of excitement, with Rams White edging Midwest Marlins in a thrilling 16-14 encounter.
Dion Harrison drove in six runs, while James Jones added a key home run to ensure the win.
Despite the loss, Marlins’ Chris McNaught impressed with a three-run homer and four runs batted in.
Martians Red proved their superiority with a 39-0 shut-out over Pi’s Panthers, with Kynan Leggett leading the charge, recording eight strikeouts and two home runs.
Suiside also recorded a big win, defeating Martians Black 20-5 behind a flurry of 17 safe hits, including four home runs.
