Meta suffers major global outage as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook down for thousands
Meta has suffered a major outage, with thousands of people across the globe reporting Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp are down.
The reports began to flow in just after 4.30am AEDT on Thursday, according to Down Detector.
More than 150,000 users across the three platforms reported outages on Down Detector.
“My Instagram account got disabled during all of this. I haven’t even been on Instagram in a week,” one person wrote on X.
“Can’t access the app or sign in on the Web either! Can’t interact or comment on others posts either,” another wrote.
Meta confirmed the outage in a statement posted to X.
“We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps,” the statement read.
“We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience.”
Many were quick to point out the irony in the post.
“It’s almost poetic that you’re using the competitor’s app to update everyone on yours being down,” one commented.
“Do you find the irony in posting on your competitors app that your apps aren’t working?” another added.
Meta’s “Status and outages of Meta business products” page on their website stated engineering teams were looking into the issue.
“We are currently experiencing major disruption impacting message delivery on Messenger Platform,” the alert stated.
“This issue started at 9:58 AM PST. Our engineering teams are investigating the issue.
“We will provide another update within 1 hour or sooner if additional information is available.
