Bridgetown carols by candlelight an inclusive evening with free sausage sizzle and ice cream

Christmas is around the corner with the Bridgetown Hospital auxiliary committee ready to lead the community into festive song. Organiser and treasurer of the auxiliary, Jo Richmond, said Bridgetown carols by candlelight will be held on December 8 in the Bridgetown Hospital grounds in the garden area. Ms Richmond said the evening would be an “inclusive occasion” for everyone in a “happy environment”. “It’s a bringing together of all denominations. No matter what religion you are, you’re welcome,” she said. The Jubilee Singers will be singing carols as people arrive. There will also be a free sausage sizzle for all, and free ice cream for children. “The sausage sizzle has never been done before, and that’s free to everybody, so that’s a brand new concept, and the ice cream is new as well,” Ms Richmond said. “Halfway through is when Santa will come, because if families have got small children at their school the next day, they may want to leave a bit early. Starting from 6pm, the event will be open to all with carols from 7pm featuring local performers. Mary Myfanwy, Esther Evans and Daun will be performing, and an additional guest is yet to be confirmed. Ms Richmond said David Bardsley would tell the Christmas story this year. A colouring competition is currently under way in Bridgetown, with Santa to present the prizes. It’s open for children up to age 12 and closes on Thursday. “We’ve got a lot of Christmas trees we’re decorating and putting around and trying to make it quite appealing,” Ms Richmond said. “Santa hands out little bags of lollies to all the children that are there, so we could try to make it a nice evening for everybody”.
