Goldfields squash players in grand form
The strength of Goldfields squash was underpinned at the recent 2024 country week championships in Perth that yielded five titles.
Among them was the men’s A-grade trophy, complemented by success in the B-grade ladies, C-grade men, E-grade men, and H-grade men.
Goldfields’ C-grade ladies were the division runners-up, and third place efforts were turned in by the region’s F-grade men, B-grade ladies and C-grade ladies.
There were 35 players, across nine teams, representing the Eastern Goldfields Squash Racquets Association.
Among the busiest was Emilio Chiarenza, who played seven games across the weekend while covering for a missing player.
Competition was decided across eight men’s and three ladies divisions.
The association’s annual Golden Open tournament remains one of the most popular of its kind in Australia and overseas that this year carried a record $6000 prize money in each of the men’s and women’s divisions.
