Fernie ends big season with winning treble at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club finale
Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club’s 2024 season ended on Saturday in the same manner as it began, with Peter Fernie landing three winners that capped off one of the most dominant campaigns of his decorated career.
Fernie’s victories were enjoyed in consecutive races — starting in race two when Kick A Goal Son ($4.80) won over 1300m.
The gelding, with Natasha Faithfull in the saddle, upstaged the Brett Drury-trained favourite High Pressure ($2.05).
Madi Derrick in the next race rode the Fernie-trained Thatsthewayilike it ($9.50) to victory over 1100m, and Austin Galati completed a treble for the master horseman when Eevalina ($3.70) saluted in the $40,000 TABtouch Regional Championship: The Road To Ascot (1200m).
Eevalina was one of four runners for Fernie in a field of seven, when the mare stormed home from fourth at the turn to edge out the Drury-trained Science Degree ($4.60).
Drury still had two winners — in race one with Onemoreforleo ($3.10), and Floba ($5) in the $24,000 Tonkin Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
Fernie grabbed second and third place with Blitzem Babe ($4.60) and Twist Of Fate ($7.50), while race six belonged to Esperance trainer Helen Harding when Safe Rappa scored at $41 over 1400m.
Alex Hearn rode each of the last two winners.
