Second home for SW firefighters

Busselton Dunsborough Times

A new shed for the Yoongarillup Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade has been erected in time for what is shaping up to be an extreme fire season.

City of Busselton ranger and emergency services manager Tim Wall said the high roofed tin shed had been built to support the current brigade and in preparation for future population growth in the area.

Mr Wall said the new facility enabled a constructive and controlled response to fire and gives “active or auxiliary members a place to call home”.

Fire control officer Ian Slee said his crew responded to 11 fires in their immediate area last year and helped with blazes in neighbouring regions.

Four females are among the brigade’s 10 active members and more people are encouraged to join.

Volunteers are initially trained in first aid, on-andoff road driving, breathing apparatus usage and a solid introduction to fire fighting.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the City’s emergency services can contact Mr Wall or Andrew Thompson on 9781 0444.
