Getting U.G.L.Y for a cause

Throughout November, Dunsborough Tavern patrons might spot an U.G.L.Y bartender or two as they enjoy a tipple.

Bartenders Elle Lucas and Bec Tarrant have taken part in the Leukaemia Foundation’s U.G.L.Y Bartender of the Year award in an attempt to raise $5000.

U.G.L.Y stands for ‘Understanding, Generous, Likeable You’ and the campaign is a light-hearted way to tackle the serious issue of blood cancers.

Miss Lucas decided to take part to help “a good cause” and said she has seen first-hand the effect cancer could have on families.

“I mainly wanted to help raise money to help provide more assistance for people living with cancer as I know they struggle with that,” she said.

Miss Lucas said they raised about $2500 at an earlier event, and would be holding a car wash between 10am and 2pm on November 19 outside the tavern.

“We will also be holding a jelly wrestling competition on November 25,” she said.

“We have a couple in it, but anyone interested can register at the tavern.”
