Community asked to help family centre
The Dunsborough community is being called on to help raise funds for a new family centre at St Georges Anglican Church.
The Church received developmental approval earlier this year for the construction of the 390sqm centre.
Project co-ordinator Ian MacKenzie said they were now in the midst of fundraising for the $750,000 project.
While parishioners have raised $74,000 to date, the church hoped to secure a grant from a government agency, as well as seeking help from the local community.
He said the growth of Dunsborough had seen five times the numbers at the church since it moved to the site in 1957, including a lot of younger people.
The new facility would provide a hall, children’s play area, meeting room, kitchen and upgraded toilets.
“We really need the facility for the youth groups and the support services like Anglicare and a FIFO group which currently meets on the veranda,” Mr MacKenzie said.
The centre, he said, would bring plenty of benefits to community groups who needed a space to meet.
Detailed drawings for the facility are currently being put together, with plans to start construction mid-next year for a 2014 completion date.
The church will hold a couple of concerts early next year to raise funds, as well as a raffle and the proceeds from its annual fete.
