Chapman Valley-Northampton beat Dongara by one wicket at the Rec on Saturday to win the Geraldton Bendigo Bank Cricket League B-grade title.

CVN was founded in 2009-10 and the premiership was their first at any level and all the sweeter as Dongara was favoured.

Dongara’s Matt Smith won the toss and batted and they made 7-153 off their 40 overs thanks to Mark Lucas (73), who passed 500 runs for the season, and Ben McTaggart (25).

CVN’s bowlers did well with Ryan Trump and skipper Scott Harrison conceding only 13 and 21 runs respectively.

Amit Sundrani (4-30) was exceptional. He dismissed Lucas and also Malcolm Cross, Chris Bowran and Smith for a combined four runs.

Set a stiff target of 154 to win, CVN was positive with Stuart Gerryn (47) getting them to 100 before he was bowled by Brett Broad (2-16).

Tom Gray (15) made handy runs but CVN kept losing wickets to Smith (3-19) and Shivanand Ravula (2-19). When Trump was leg before to Smith and the eighth man out, CVN still needed nine to win.

They lost a ninth wicket with seven needed but the last pair, Sundrani and Scott Pole, got them home.
