Two men have been charged after evading police, one arrested on the roof of the Astor Theatre
An hour-long police pursuit has ended with bizarre scenes as officers arrested a man on the roof of Astor Theatre in Mount Lawley on Sunday morning.
A 24-year-old man from Balga and a 21-year-old man from Embleton were both charged after leading police on a 36km pursuit from Merriwa in the northern suburbs, down the Mitchell Freeway.
The chase ended with the Embleton man on the Beaufort Street theatre’s roof and the Balga man being taken away in an ambulance.
The pair failed to stop for officers who attempted to pull them over on Hester Avenue regarding recent home burglaries, and sped off in their black BMW down the freeway, driving erratically.
The police helicopter monitored the car from the air, where it was seen pulling off onto Karrinyup Road where it continued to travel at a very high speed.
But the pair abandoned their car near the corner of Walcott Street and Beaufort Street in Mount Lawley. The driver and passenger fled and continued to run from police on foot.
While the 24-year-old was tackled near the post office on Beaufort Street, the 21-year-old scaled the buildings and lead officers on a rooftop chase, before being arrested on the Astor Theatre roof.
Both men have been charged with a string of offences, including reckless driving, no authority to drive, and failure to stop.
The 24-year-old from Balga was charged with additional offiences including stealing and aggravated home burglary from homes across Yanchep, Mirrabooka, Merriwa and Balcatta.
The pair were refused bail and are due to face Perth Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning.
