Sadee Sub Laban: Man filmed in Perth calling Jewish woman a ‘child killer’ revealed as ex-Love Island star

A man accused of calling a Jewish woman a “child killer” in Kings Park has been revealed as a former Love Island star and promising rugby league player. Sadee sub Laban went live on TikTok following a front page story by The West Australian apologising for calling the woman a “gronk” and has claimed he did not know what the Star of David was when he called the woman a “child killer”. Footage posted on social media on Thursday shows Mr sub Laban speaking with the American tourist, who is wearing a Star of David necklace, saying: “Do you support your genocide? What’s wrong? “Youse are gronks, that’s what youse are, youse are genocide . . . the children killer,” he said. The woman, who was visiting Perth from New York, said she was “attacked” by Mr sub Laban, who was wearing traditional Muslim dress, and his companion, a woman in a niqab. “These people just attacked me in Perth because they saw my Magen David (Star of David necklace),” the woman said. The video footage, posted by the Australian Jewish Association to X on Thursday, shows the woman chanting a Jewish solidarity anthem after the incident. Mr sub Laban then approached another man who attempted to defend the woman when she shouted “get away from him”, he told her to “shut up”. A female bystander could be heard attempting to diffuse the situation, shouting: “There are families around who don’t need to hear this.” Mr sub Laban — a former under-20s player for the Penrith Panthers — appeared on the third season of Love Island Australia, lasting only a number of days. The young man posted a video to TikTok on Friday sharing his side of the story, claiming the media reporting was “so far from the truth”. He claimed a man accompanying the woman first confronted him by saying “all glory to Israel,” which he said was “traumatic to hear” because he was a “Palestinian, born, bred.” “If he’s allowed to yell that at me, am I not allowed to defend myself?” he said. Mr sub Laban said he livestreamed the altercation and claims he was yelled at because of his “cultural dress”. The former reality show contestant posted a small portion of that livestream on Friday, which shows the man yelling at Mr sub Laban as he walked past. “I just want to say I feel sorry for anybody else out there that has to through this, who didn’t have a camera on at the time, because as we all know, a lot of us do go through this,” Mr sub Laban said. On a TikTok live, he apologised for calling the woman, whose first name is Sophie, a “gronk,” and claimed he didn’t know she was Jewish. The woman has shared dozens of political posts on her social media accounts, including one where she referred to the united nations as the “united Nazis”. She waved the Israeli flag while standing outside the secretary general of the UN’s home, calling him a “terrorist sympathiser” who had had done “nothing to bring back our hostages”. She is also a proud Donald Trump supporter and was one of several people who wore garbage bags as clothing after Joe Biden called his supporters “garbage”. “Biden and Harris, this piece of garbage proudly voted for Donald J. Trump (through) early voting,” she told her 2300 Instagram followers.” The female victim identified herself as an “Australian tourist from New York” who was “attacked because I was visibly Jewish”. Mr sub Laban’s quick departure from Love Island came amid allegations he harassed women on dating apps. “If there was hundreds of girls going to (the) police to report me and hundreds of videos with me, I’m pretty sure police wouldn’t keep me on the outside world,” he said. After the media frenzy, Mr sub Laban vanished from social media before his made headlines in 2022, after he handed himself into police over the alleged assault of an 18-year-old. It is believed Mr sub Laban and his companion were visiting Perth from Sydney. They were seen with a suitcase in Kings Park when the video was recorded. WA Police have told The West Australian they have no record of the incident being reported. It comes after an arson attack on a Melbourne synagogue and an incident in Sydney where cars and fences were graffitied with anti-Israel slogans. Kings Park is also home to the Jewish War Memorial, erected in 1920. The woman told her Instagram followers in the wake of the altercation that “it is disgusting that Jewish tourists get accosted and almost assaulted simply for being tourists in a country that has no interest in protecting its Jewish citizens or Jewish tourists” “Albanese, you are the Prime Minister of Australia, a beautiful country that you are making ugly. You are not helping the situation — extra patrol cars to protect Jews is not the answer. “You stop the virulent anti-Semites, you don’t pretend to give us extra security. My answer to all the anti-Semites and Islamic terrorist sympathisers in Australia is I don’t change who I am — I wear it louder and prouder. The Australian Jewish Association called the video: “Jewish couple in Perth have abuse shouted at them by Muslim man”. Association chief executive Robert Gregory described the Perth attack as “brazen”. “It sends a very worrying message,” he told The West Australian. “Jewish people are scared of what’s happening, they’re scared that the conflicts from overseas are now being brought to the streets of Australia. “We know across Australia, synagogues have been targeted, Jewish schools have been targeted, and now Jewish people are being targeted in the streets. “It’s very brazen to target people in the middle of a park in the middle of the day; it shows that the people doing these types of things are getting more aggressive and they’re getting more brazen and they don’t fear the consequences.”
