Man facing multiple charges after police allegedly find him with knife while attempting to break into business

A 53-year-old man has been arrested in the Perth CBD overnight after he allegedly had a knife while attempting to break into a licensed premises in the city. Officers arrested the man about 1.25am on Thursday after they were alerted to a man behaving suspiciously outside a licenced premise on Wellington Street in Perth. Police say he was standing in the doorway of the establishment, which was closed at this time. It is alleged the man was in possession of a knife when officers took him into custody. The 53-year-old has been charged with burglary and commit on a place, criminal damage or destruction of property, and being armed in a way that may cause fear. He will face the Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday. It comes as police investigate multiple knife incidents across the city — including on Wednesday when a man was attacked in the CBD. Officers were at the scene of the serious assault at the intersection of Barrack Street and St Georges Terrace just before 5am on Wednesday. Police say a man in his 20s was attacked by a group of people. He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with injuries to his back, believed to be consistent with a knife wound. Police have not laid any charges over the incident as their investigation remains ongoing. Later on Wednesday, two supermarket workers stopped an accused knife-wielding shoplifter from wreaking havoc at Willagee IGA around 3.30pm. They stopped a woman armed with a knife from stealing at the store before another man allegedly attacked the workers with pepper spray. A homicide probe in Perth’s south is also underway after a man was found with a fatal stab wound on Tuesday night. Police said they were called to a home on Port Royal Drive about 11.45pm in relation to an incident in which a man in his 30s was “seriously injured”. He was rushed to Rockingham General Hospital but died a short time later. Police on Wednesday night said a 46-year-old man had been taken into custody but no charges have been laid.
