Remembrance Day honours the fallen

On Wednesday, people gathered in Victoria Square to mark Remembrance Day, 102 years since the end of World War I.

Each year, at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, the public commemorate the lives of servicemen and women, and this year was no different.

“It is wonderful to see communities come together to remember and honour all those who served in the war, and fought for our freedom, particularly those that did not return,” Vasse MLA Libby Mettam said.

“Thank you to our local RSL who are an invaluable part of our community and provide ongoing support and camaraderie to our veterans and their families.”

RSL president Glenn Woodward is a Vietnam War veteran and said there was no such thing as a pretty war.

“It’s a remembrance of our friends and the wars. You lose people. I’ve lost many friends, and now we reflect and remember them,” Mr Woodward said.
