Pretty Uglys excited for ‘super-fun’ show
After their success releasing two singles, Yellow Tremolo and Slide, local surf-rock band Pretty Uglys will play a headline show at Settlers Tavern on June 7.
The band are coming off playing two sold-out shows alongside big-name acts Good Doogs and Ruby Fields and will return to the South West for a head-banging free live show.
The Busselton and Cowaramup band are a classic garage act, jamming in lead singer Jaxon Alp’s front room, where they write most of their songs.
“Yellow Tremelo was written about a year ago with an opening guitar riff and that sort of created the feel for the rest of the track, so all the rest came quite naturally,” Alp said.
“Like always, we jam the song until we’re really happy with it, then I write lyrics.”
With plenty of new material on the way, the band will be travelling to Fremantle in the coming weeks for several recording sessions at Poons Heads Studios, with a new single on the horizon
“Our live set has got a lot of energy and our new single, Slide, has been well received,” Alp said.
“Settlers is always a super-fun venue. It’s our first headline gig, which will be fun.
“A lot of our mates and fan base are down here in the South West, so we’re most excited for this gig.”
One of their first songs, Bedroom Socialite, has a strong sentiment of staying true to oneself.
“To put it simply the song is about when you’re trying to impress too many people and forget to be yourself, take a second and keep it simple,” Alp said.
