Busselton swimmer Misha Matthews, 10, will dive headfirst into the Kids Swim as part of the SunSmart Busselton Jetty Swim on Sunday, February 11.

The Georgiana Molloy Anglican Primary School student will compete in the event for the first time after receiving a complimentary entry in the race offered by recovery zone sponsor Busselton Water.

After competing in the Iron Kids X Adventure as part of a triathlon team last year, Misha is not afraid of competition.

She will take on Busselton Jetty Swim kids course on Sunday, joining other participants in a 222m swim around the small jetty on the Busselton foreshore under the supervision of the WA Surf Life Saving Society.

Misha said she was excited to compete for the first time and had been preparing by swimming at the beach whenever she could.

Busselton Water chief executive Chris Elliott said the event helped to shine the spotlight on Busselton and its up-and-coming talent.

“This wonderful community event helps to bring people of all ages together, encourages them to strive for their personal best and have a great time in the process,” he said.

“We wish Misha the best of luck — it’s great to see her passion for swimming and we hope this is the first of many open water events she will complete.

“We’ll be looking forward to congratulating everyone on their achievement by the time they reach the Busselton Water Recovery Zone.”

The SunSmart Busselton Jetty Kids Swim starts at 11.30am.
