Margaret River Senior High School has been ranked among the top 10 schools in WA and the leader in the South West based on the recent ATAR results.

In the South West MRSHS was the only school to be recognised for their ATAR performance across three courses, having students who achieved in the top 15 per cent in English, modern history, and mathematics.

Other South West schools to be recognised for outstanding performance were Bunbury and Australind senior high schools with achievement in two courses.

Schools in the region with outstanding results in one course were Bunbury Catholic College, Manea Senior College, St Mary Mackillop College and Manjimup Senior High School.

MRSHS principle Andrew Host was delighted that the high school was ranked as the top performing school in the South West.

“Our students are really invested in what they are doing, and they really deserve the results they receive,” he said.

Mr Host put the results down to the highly qualified staff working at MRSHS and a community that really values the importance of a quality education.

“We see the parents giving outstanding support to our students,” Mr Host said.

He said the difficulty of accessing valuable learning resources such as well stocked libraries and museums are regarded as challenges for regional schools.

“We try and support our students to help them access extra tutorials and additional learning materials,” he said.

“MRSHS runs a comprehensive enrichment program that starts in year seven.

“It is not just in ATAR that we are seeing our results improve year on year, but also across other areas of the school we are showing outstanding results.”

In addition to the overall ATAR result, two MRSHS VET students received Certificates of Excellence in 2023.

These awards were for studies in Business and Financial Services Information and Communications Technology; and Tourism, Hospitality and Events.
