Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association inks three-year funding agreement with City of Busselton

A Capes tourism organisation providing information and services to visitors, as well as advocacy, has locked in continued funding support from the City of Busselton. The Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association has signed a new deal with the council, which will see more than $157,000 provided to the not-for-profit organisation each year over the next three years. Funding will be used to continue providing services to tourists at the Busselton Visitors Centre, which operates 364 days a year. Data from the MRBTA last financial year showed the centre supported more than 1.4 million remote interactions and more than 155,000 in-person dealings. Mayor Phill Cronin celebrated the announcement of the agreement. “The funding builds on the 15-year successful partnership between the city and MRBTA, which promotes the region as the destination of choice for events and unique tourism experiences,” he said. “The delivery of visitor services on behalf of the city represents a cost-effective investment towards tourism as a key economic driver for our community.” Mr Cronin said the MRBTA provided a high level of service to the region’s tourism industry, congratulating the organisation on its successful nomination of Busselton into the 7NEWS WA Top Tourism Town Awards. MRBTA chief executive Sharna Kearney said the team was grateful for the ongoing support from the city. “The Busselton Visitor Centre receives excellent reviews from visitors who appreciate the in-depth interactions they have with our team when planning their holiday,” she said. “The economic impact of these interactions is also clear, as the latest research shows that every person who uses a visitor centre spends an additional $150 in region as a result. “We look forward to continuing to share Busselton’s unique offering with visitors as the region’s enviable tourism and event offerings go from strength to strength, and as town centre developments progress.” Tourism WA data shows the city received 895,000 visitors in the 12 months to May, with a total of $838 million being spent by tourists each year.
