Foreshore sculptures back again

The Dunsborough foreshore will be lined with sculptures of all shapes and sizes next weekend as part of the ninth annual Sculpture by the Bay event.

Part of the Dunsborough Arts Festival, the event has attracted a range of new and previously exhibited artists from across the State, who are now putting the finishing touches to their work ahead of the exhibition.

Yallingup artist Sue Smorthwaite has entered the exhibition twice before and this year is working on a felt piece, titled Aide Memoire.

Smorthwaite said the piece was her suggestion for “those people who are compelled to mark their passage through the natural landscape without disturbing the geological environment”.

She said the exhibition was a wonderful event for emerging and established local artists, with the Dunsborough foreshore an amazing backdrop to display the sculptures.

“It is creating a growing awareness of the quality sculpture and artworks being created here in the South West,” she said.

Sculpture by the Bay will run March 3, 4 and 5 and will be officially opened by artist Monique Tippett, from 9.15am on March 3, which will be followed by the presentations of awards.
