The Busselton Tennis Club has this week played host to two regional tennis tournaments.

The D’Arcy Slater Cup for boys and Women in Tennis Foundation Cup for girls junior tournaments attracted more than 80 players aged 13 and under from across WA.

Players came from the Mid West, Upper Great Southern, Great Southern, South West, Central Districts, Pilbara and Eastern Districts.

Tennis excellence director Andrew Woodward said the South West fielded 26 players across six teams.

“There were a lot of new players to tournaments and some that have done this tournament for three or four years,” he said.

Players from the South West attended from Busselton, Dunsborough, Bunbury, Australind, Margaret River and Brunswick.

“It’s great to have this many people visit the tennis club, as the players bring their parents too,” Woodward said.

“The tournaments spend two years in the South West before they move onto the Midwest next.”

Tennis West competition and tournaments manager Loretta Hughes said the tournaments had been longstanding events on the calendar.

“WA has a host of talented players out in the regions and these tournaments are crucial to the ongoing development of these aspiring athletes.”
