Dance for Radiance: Local dance company fundraising for postnatal depression and anxiety
A local dance company will be teaming up with a not-for-profit organisation to raise money for new parents in the South West.
The adults only dance company, Suspensions Aerial Arts & Burlesque, will be holding a series of workshops to raise funds for the Radiance Network South West.
Radiance is a non-profit organisation which supports the emotional well being of new parents, navigating postpartum depression and anxiety.
In order to provide this support, Radiance rely heavily on financial grants and donations.
Suspensions Aerial Arts & Burlesque is holding seven dance workshops across two weekends, to encourage women to have fun and gain confidence.
Director Therese Colman says she was motivated to fundraise for Radiance after having her own experience with postnatal depression and anxiety nearly two years ago.
“I mentioned to the community health nurse that I wasn’t doing well, and that same day someone from Radiance was in touch with me, helping me navigate my mental and emotional frame of mind and steering me in the direction of the help I needed,” she said.
“I quickly realised that there were so many support services and resources out there, and most of the time it’s about building up the courage and confidence to say ‘I need help’.”
Ms Colman said raising money through her workshops would be her way to give back and say thank you, as well as teaching women a new skill to unlock confidence.
All workshops are for 18 plus participants and suitable for beginners with zero dance background.
Workshops will be held in Dunsborough on April 29, Yallingup on April 30, Margaret River on May 6 and Cowaramup on May 7.
