Busselton hair salon a success at WA International Hairdressing Society State Championships
Busselton hair salon Oscar & Ivy Hair Co had plenty of success at the West Australian International Hairdressing Society State Championships.
On Sunday, October 8, co owner of Oscar & Ivy, Natalie Paterson headed up to Perth to compete in the competition.
The championships celebrate the best work of hairdressers and barbers across the State and due to the pandemic this was the first IHS competition since 2019.
The salon did extremely well among the tough competition, placing second in the session styling category and third in blonde colouring.
Ms Paterson said doing so well at these events and competition gave the salon plenty of exposure.
“We all love getting out there and doing different things that we are interested in and it’s so great just to collaborate and meet other people in the hairdressing community,” she said.
“It’s just a really proud moment to know that you’re still up with all the trends and all the styles, because it’s been a long time since I’ve done my apprenticeship.
“So to put yourself out there and give yourself a bit of a challenge is really good to do every now and then.”
The salon placed in the two categories they entered in, which was Ms Paterson’s goal going in to the championships.
“I am a super competitive person, so I was like if I don’t place, I’ll be disappointed, but I’m very happy and thrilled with how we went,” she said.
“Hairdressing and our salon isn’t just a job for us, it’s a hobby, it’s a passion and we go into work every day and just have fun.”
