Bus for village trips
Novacare Lifestyle Village has a new bus thanks to a donation from resident Dot Morris, allowing residents to go on social functions and regular shopping trips.
Ms Morris said the bus had been her son’s, and with the increasing need for transportation at the village, she thought it would be perfect.
“Everyone has been so wonderful to me in the past few years so I thought we could give something back,” she said.
Novacare Lifestyle Village chief executive Gordon Genet said everyone was very thankful for the donation.
“Our community is very tight-knit and we like to think our village is more like a resort than a retirement facility,” he said.
“Our residents who can no longer drive will be able to stay active thanks to Dot and her son.
“The ladies are already planning several lunches each month.” Residents’ association president Doug King said the new bus would be put to good use.
“We’ve been canvassing for a new bus for several years but couldn’t afford it, and when Dot’s husband passed away about two or three years ago the community really helped her, and as a result of that she and her sons decided they would donate a bus to the community,” he said.
“It will be a boon for many reasons.
“This has all happened so quickly and we’re still coming to grips with it.
“I’m sure there will be a few wineries on the first tour.”
