An inverted blue tree was installed along Bussell Highway last week as a collective symbol of hope for those struggling with mental health.

The blue tree was the product of combined help from around the South West through a fundraiser for The Man Walk, Shining Hope and the Blue Tree Project.

On Saturday, July 25, people will gather at 55 Bussell highway to join in a community painting day with hopes to maximise community engagement.

Shining Hope committee member Jon Eddy said the tree was a symbol focused on getting people talking about mental health and opening up about their experiences.

“We decided to do an inverted blue tree with the idea being strong roots in the community to get people discussing mental health and reduce the stigma surrounding it,” Mr Eddy said.

“The painting day is a community event and it will be running 10am to 4pm and absolutely anyone is welcome.”

People from all walks of life will paint the tree and talk about their mental health experiences.

Vasse MLA Libby Mettam said the tree was representative of a community who cares and is ready to have difficult conversations about mental health.

“It’s wonderful to see so much community support for the Blue Tree Project here in Busselton,” she said.

The painting day has a raffle running with $5000 worth of local goods and services.

The prizes have been donated by Capes tourism companies and can be found at www.rafflelink.com.au/bluetree.
