Bargain books for literacy

Hundreds of books will go on sale today at the Busselton Library’s quarterly Big Book Sale, with proceeds returning to the improvement of the library.

Library services co-ordinator Carol Anderson said it was a great opportunity for members of the public to get a good bargain.

“We are selling books for children and adults, fiction and non-fictions, DVDs, sound recordings and large print,” she said.

Concerning the decline in book sales around the world and the move to more digital platforms, Ms Anderson said literacy was the foundation of learning.

“You still have to be literate to stay relevant in an online environment — these days literacy levels have fallen but children need to form a solid foundation,” she said.

“In the book sale we have lots of children’s books at $1 each and they are of great value for mums and dads and grandparents to expose their children to books and proper literacy.”

The sale runs from 9am-3pm at the Busselton Community Resources Centre.
