The Busselton Cultural precinct is set to light up this Friday when the 14th annual City of Busselton Art Award and street party kicks off.

Established in 2008, the initiative aims to highlight and support the work of local and WA contemporary artists.

Locals are invited to indulge in a celebration of local talent between 5pm and 8.30pm.

There will be a variety of food and drink, live music and street art performances.

Major prizes will be announced at 6.30pm, with a total of $15,000 up for the taking and the winning piece to be added to the City’s collection.

The community is also encouraged to vote on their favourite pieces for the people’s choice award, with all works on display at the ArtGeo Gallery and Old Courthouse. The art award exhibition will then remain open for viewing daily from 10am to 4pm until January 20.

Street Party celebrations will start with South West funk and reggae band Beeva Feeva, with light-filled and colourful dancing by Moonlight Bodyworks to take place from sunset.

Fremantle band Witchy Djypsies will then continue festivities into the evening.
