Some of the Capes region’s most notorious coastal black spots are coming in for some special treatment.

The State Government this week announced six beaches in the region would be included in an expansion of mobile coverage ultimately affecting 35 regional beaches Statewide.

Capes beaches included Moses and Sugarloaf Rock in the north, Elephant Rock, Gallows, and Deepdene and Cosy Corner in the south.

Regional Development Minister Don Punch said the $2 million investment would provide greater support to residents and visitors in those areas.

“The Surf Beaches Mobile Coverage Grants Program is a significant initiative for regional WA, expanding mobile coverage at some of our most remote but popular beach locations,” he said.

“Investing in upgrades to telecommunications infrastructure through this initiative supports our regional communities and helps to keep Western Australians safe at the beach.”

The hit list of beaches targeted came via feedback from agencies including Surfing WA, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, local governments and other agencies.
