Margaret River Senior High School squads vie for honours in country week extravaganza

More than 100 Margaret River Senior High School students have returned from their country week adventure in Perth, with the school claiming an overall second place in tier two of the hard-fought competition.

The school fielded Year 11 and 12 squads in Australian Rules football, volleyball, dance, indoor cricket, soccer, and speech and debate.

In the A-grade competition, the school’s dance squad came in fourth and the speech and debate team finished second in their tough competition.

It was heartbreak for the boys and girls volleyball squads who stunned the field by reaching the finals in both competitions.

Unfortunately the boys folded at the final hurdle and were relegated to fourth place in the elite competition, while the girls came off an undefeated nine-game streak only to lose their final against Albany.

The indoor cricketers claimed top spot in the B-grade competition, while the boys soccer team managed third place with depleted numbers and the netballers claimed third.

The football squad came fourth in the C-grade competition.

MRSHS health and PE teacher Berin Sluiter congratulated the young challengers on their trek to the city that included extracurricular activities including mini golf and a night walk in Kings Park.
