Families to score free swims as State Government program comes to Margaret River
As the weather heats up, the Margaret River Aquatic Centre is getting set to receive even more visitors thanks to a planned State Government program which will see some children swim for free this summer.
Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman recently announced the extension of a scheme drawing upon the KidSport program to help underprivileged households get free swims.
Parents and families with healthcare concession cards could liaise with the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River for free pool access.
Mr Templeman said the rollout followed a successful trial in WA’s north.
“More kids will now have free access to their local regional pool, just in time for the hot weather,” he said.
“Local governments throughout the State are being invited to participate in the program, with up to 88 pools eligible.
“This program is all about providing vital cost-of-living relief to low-income families while encouraging kids to dive into a healthy lifestyle.”
Shire chief executive Andrea Selvey said hitting the pool was “synonymous with childhood summer memories”.
“So we’re thrilled the KidSport Regional Pools Program will offer free pool entry for eligible local families,” she said.
“We’re excited to be offering eligible children unlimited free pool entry until March.
“Children need to be five to 18, live in WA, and be listed on their parent concession card.”
To apply for the scheme, residents can talk to the recreation centre’s administration support officer on weekdays between 9am and 3pm.
