More than 15,000 people docked in Albany Port over the longer-than-usual 2023-2024 cruise ship season, with 11 ships visiting the Great Southern.

The tourism boost to the region saw cruise visitors taking in sights from the Anzac Centre to York Street’s shopping strip and whale-watching tours.

Southern Ports chief executive officer Keith Wilks said the longer cruise season, which extended to June in 2024, showed Albany was a growing cruise destination in WA.

“I may be a little biased, but I think the southern coast of Western Australia has some of the most beautiful regions to visit,” he said.

“This is evident by the number of cruise ships who choose to dock at our Port of Albany.

“What’s not to love about Albany with its incredible history, beautiful environment, and impressive attractions?

“Cruises may only stop for a day in Albany, but they give tourists a taste for the region that leaves them wanting to come back time and time again.”

The Great Southern was visited by 11 cruise ships during the season, which ran from October 2023 to June 2024, finishing with a visit from the P&O Pacific Explorer on June 13.
