Ciao Dandy

This summer spot is popping up after Karrinyup favourite Dandelion closed its doors this week, aiming to bring some of that Italian dolce vita with a menu including an epic tiramisu cannoli, plus a spritz bar. It’s from Parker Group (the team behind Dandelion, as well as The Royal, Fleur, Willi’s Pizza Bar and The Standard). Its culinary head, the acclaimed chef Brendan Pratt, nominates the tiger prawns poached in tomato sugo, the handmade pastas and local octopus as dishes guaranteed to transport you to a sunny coastal trattoria. It’s open on the West Deck at Karrinyup Shopping Centre now.

FOMO Festive Fair

Want to pick up some unique Christmas presents, have a couple of cold drinks, and something delicious to eat? Head down to the open-air festive market at FOMO in Fremantle. On December 14, FOMO and Walyalup Koort will be taken over by retailers, artists, designers and makers, including painter Anya Brock, ceramicist Shupiwe Chongwe, artist Carla Adams and more. Expect a treasure trove of jewellery, clothing, ceramics, homewares, artworks, prints, vintage collectables and more. There will also be classes if you’re feeling crafty, including a card creating workshop with Brock, pottery lessons with Chongwe, handcrafting a ceramic “un-boring bauble” with Big Bite Studio, and making a fragrant wreath with The Freo Florist. It’s on from 11am-4pm and is free to enter.

Rendezvous Film Club

This popular rooftop cinema, with its panoramic ocean views, is back for summer, with an extended program. Deckchairs will be set up on the observation deck of the 24th storey of the Rendezvous Hotel in Scarborough for festive films, including classics Die Hard, Home Alone and Love Actually, and a summer line-up of cult favourites from rom-coms to action and family movies. Guests can have a cocktail and food at the Club Lounge before the cinema opens at 6.45pm. Chairs are on a first come, first served basis, and there will be a pop-up bar serving drinks, popcorn and dessert boxes. Yo-Chi

Perth’s hot summers mean we are always on the look-out for a cooling treat, and the “overwhelming” demand for these frozen yoghurt and acai slingers means they’re opening three new Perth stores in as many weeks. To add to its existing six locations, Yo-Chi opened in Currambine last week, with Forrest Chase and Whitford City due to open before Christmas. Each will have the signature line-up of flavours and its buffet-style toppings bar, with options from melted Biscoff and mochi to vegan cookie dough and fresh fruit. There’s also a special gingerbread crumble in the works for the festive season. See yochi.com.au.
