Kia has unveiled its first ever dedicated electric vehicle, pulling the covers off its imaginatively titled EV6 this week.

More information will be revealed later this month at the car’s official digital debut, but Kia has offered some details.

Like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 revealed last month, the EV6 is a medium SUV sitting on Hyundai’s E-GMP electric vehicle architecture.

Design-wise, Kia has opted for something quite different from its stablemate.

The EV6 shows off Kia’s “Opposites United” approach, which will be applied to all future vehicles.

The front end has what Kia calls a “Digital Tiger Face”, an evolution of the brand’s Tiger Nose Grille of recent years.

Daytime running lights feature a dynamic, sequential light pattern while a low air intake aims to widen the car’s appearance, as well as channeling air though and under the EV6’s flat floor.

A significantly raked windscreen and bulging rear haunches add a sporty, muscular element, while the rear end has a sloping C-pillar with an integrated glossy black insert.

A prominent roof spoiler channels air towards a raised lower spoiler above the rear light cluster.

As with the Ioniq 5, the skateborad-like E-GMP platform allows for abundant interior space and flexibility.

Kia points out the curved high-definition audio visual and navigation screen as a highlight, whcih it says helps to give a sense of openness.

It extends from the steering wheel across to the centre of the car, displaying an instrument cluster in front of the driver and infotainment and navigation info above the centre console.

Physical buttons are kept to a minimum for an uncluttered look.

Haptic climate control buttons sit under the AVN screen, while the dashboard slopes towards the front of the car to create greater sense of space for the front-seat passenger.

As is increasingly the case with EVs, the seats are made from recycled plastics and going by the available images, appear to be heated and cooled at the front on at least some variants.

The interior images also appear to reveal a wireless phone charging pad, gear selector dial and push button start, plus a drive mode button on the steering wheel.

Kia is yet to reveal powertrain details, however it’s been reported the EV6 will offer a range in excess of 500km and a 3.0-second 0-100km/h time in a future high performance variant.

Kia Australia says it’s keen for the EV6, but it’s yet to be confirmed for local release.
