Easy bathroom updates
Hit refresh on a dated space with these simple and affordable ideas.
If your bathroom is in need of an update but a full-scale reno is not on the cards, Bunnings bathroom buyer Natasha Ryan suggests giving the room a new coat of paint, then changing out your hardware.
“Repainting your bathroom can give your space an instant makeover and can be completed over a weekend,” she says.
“Replacing dated fixtures and fittings is another great way to easily revive the look and feel of your bathroom.”
Interior designer Melissa Redwood says a new mirror is another simple update.
“You are no longer restricted to just a rectangular, wall-mounted mirror,” she says.
“There is the option of adding beautiful decorative mirrors (that previously would only be seen in bedrooms) or large round mirrors which are particularly popular at the moment.”
For Marie Botsis-Premici, of Montauk Lighting, lighting is another sure-fire way to revamp your bathroom.
“The best place to start with light is at eye level — mounting wall lights either side of a mirror provides you with shadowless illumination and the best results for your vanity area,” she says.
“Ensure that lights you are choosing for your bathroom are damp-rated, that is, where fixtures may be exposed to steam or collect condensation.”
Finally, finish with some greenery, Ms Redwood suggests. “Integrating elements of the outdoors, such as potted plants or hanging greenery, gives a serene feel to bathrooms,” she says.
“Just make sure that you select plants that enjoy high humidity.”
