San Cisco review: Beloved band bring chill party vibes to Fremantle Arts Centre on Under the Light tour

San Cisco took to the familiar stage at Fremantle Arts Centre at the weekend, filling the atmosphere with a healthy dose of classic hits and a sprinkle of their latest songs. The Fremantle trio — Jordi Davieson, Scarlett Stevens and Josh Biondillo — have been travelling around the nation on their Under the Light world tour, which celebrates their fifth studio album of the same name. After a gig at Busselton’s Shelter Brewing and a Saturday show in Freo, the indie outfit played a second show at FAC to wrap up the WA journey. Taking to the stage just after 8pm, they launched into their track Summer Days, an ideal number to set the tone for the evening with those who had been sitting on the grass making their way closer to the stage. Frontman Davieson made it clear that the night would involve a “healthy” mix of old and new songs. Across the almost 90-minute Sunday sesh, the band played 18 songs; coming back for an encore where they asked which song the crowd wanted. Fans instantly requested their 2012 popular track Fred Astaire. They finished with Too Much Time Together, a catchy banger from their 2015 album Gracetown. While the not-massive crowd appeared to be having a stellar time, Davieson commented on how the fans were much “quieter than last night”. “Between songs, you are very polite,” he told the crowd. There were cheers of joy when drummer Stevens made her way to the front of the stage for her time to shine as a singer for Honeycomb. “It’s my chance to stand tall in my boots, I can’t drum in boots,” she said. Adding a different element to their set, the band performed a cover of US supergroup Boygenius’ song Not Strong Enough, which was received well by the audience. Having completed several international dates on the tour, jetting across Europe and the UK, Davieson joked about how good it was to save money on plane tickets and drive his car to the venue. The pop crooner sparked giggles again when he took off his jacket for a boogie involving passionate hip thrusts during Consequence. Overall, San Cisco never fail to disappoint. They know what the fans come for and the fans know what to expect. For those that missed out on this tour, the band are set to perform a free gig at Burswood Park next Sunday for the WA Day Festival.
