Double the festive fun with WA Symphony Orchestra concerts at RAC Arena and Burswood Park in December

WA Symphony Orchestra is serving up a double helping of festive fun with free concerts on two successive weekends in December. On December 14, WASO teams with Lotterywest and the City of Perth for the Lotterywest Christmas Spectacular at RAC Arena, with 150 musicians led by conductor Jen Winley and hosted by musical theatre star Genevieve McCarthy. It’s billed as WA’s biggest free end-of-year show featuring singers Luke Kennedy, Samantha Clarke, Lorina Gore, Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse, plus WASO, the WASO Chorus, and Santa! LED effects and fireworks will add impact, with family favourites including Aussie Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Baby, and movie hits from Home Alone and Frozen. “I’m looking forward to donning my Santa hat and singing some carols alongside the talented musicians of our State orchestra, and I’m sure everyone else is too,” Culture and Arts Minister David Templeman said. There are two shows, at 2pm and 7pm, and tickets are free but must be reserved at waso.com.au. “WASO is bringing the magic to the magic of Christmas right here to the heart of Perth with this much-loved holiday event,” Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said. “We can’t wait to welcome you back for another seasonal spectacular performed in the City of Light.” Then on December 21, WASO crosses the river for Santa’s Symphony in the Park at Burswood, again with Winley, McCarthy, Clarke, Williams and Ghouse and the WASO Chorus, plus singers Sophie Foster and Perry Joyce. Ho, ho, ho, and Santa too! Food trucks open in the picnic area at Burswood Park from 4pm, with family entertainment at 4.30pm, performances from 5.45pm and WASO on the main stage at 7pm. No tickets are needed and the event is free to West Australians of all ages.
