Jetty contract terminated, work recommences

The refurbishment of Busselton Jetty is set to get underway after Busselton Shire Council announced it terminated the contract with Marine and Civil today.

The decision was made after the contractors indicated they were unable to carry out the work in accordance with the current terms of the contract.

The announcement comes after four weeks of negotiation between the council, Busselton Jetty Refurbishment Project Team and Marine and Civil representatives to work through legal and financial issues.

Busselton Shire CEO Mike Archer said the completion of the jetty project was a top priority for the council.

He said the termination effectively ends the delay and work on the jetty would start on Monday utilising council staff, assisted where necessary by external providers.

“We have the skills and expertise to finish what is only a small section of the Jetty, and…we’re rearing to get to work,” Mr Archer said.
